Editor’s Welcome Summer 2023

“Damp Grass Labyrinth with Clouds” by Alan Barr

Hi, everyone!

Where I live, in South Carolina, it is fully humid and summer is in full swing.  I grew up in central West Virginia and this time of year in South Carolina always feels like a beach vacation to me.  It’s where we always went when I was growing up.  I love the smell of salty air and even though it wears on me by the end, I kind of enjoy those first few days of mega humidity.  I am also trying to take myself out to the beach pretty regularly this summer so I don’t forget why I moved here in the first place!

I hope your summers are off to a similarly magical start.  In this issue, we offer some pretty wonderful work!  Doug has selected some really beautiful poems and I am crazy about Natalie’s fiction selections this round.  I had a great time looking at the non-fiction submissions and I hope I’ve selected a couple that you’ll like to read.  We’ve also got a great review of Denton Loving’s latest collection, Tamp:  Poems.

Stay hydrated.  Enjoy some sunshine.  Read something really wonderful.  Relax at least one day a week.  Or don’t.  Whatever you do, I hope you enjoy this issue and I hope you have a great summer.

Melissa
