Boon LEE graduated recently from the Bachelor of Art (Fine Arts) program under the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, after practicing science as a professional meteorologist for years. When creating art, Boon is interested in the use of readymades and recyclable materials, and appeals to minimalism in view of the scientific background. Over the past couple of years, Boon’s artwork is practically made out of found objects and cardboard, which are recyclable and sustainable. In particular, cardboard alludes to trade and globalization, and can be related to social issues such as inequality and rights if we think of old people making a pittance out of collecting cardboard on the street. As an art material it has a rich palette and can display lines and directions, lending a fresh angle of view as well as perception of extra space.
